The Freshwater Series Foot-control Trolling Motors come in 12 and 24-volt models with 5-speed and Digital variable speed power systems.  The Rack & Pinion steering has been in the MotorGuide line for over 20 years and is a very simple straight forward design known for its long lasting durability and is a very performer.  Thrust ratings for the Freshwater foot-control models run from 46 to 71 lbs. of thrust.

The FW46 and 54 come with a innovative new Gator Flex 360 Mounting System that uses a high impact rubber that has been designed to flex in all directions to protect the motor lower unit and shaft your from underwater obstructions.  This new system has been refined over the last two years and continues to be MotorGuide’s #1 selling Foot-control Series.  The Gator Flex 360 mount is made out of proprietary XK360 aluminum invented by Mercury Marine for an incredible strength to weigh ratio.  This good looking mount is perfect match for any lightweight aluminum rig made for shallow water fishing.  One-hand stow/deploy operation is very easy and makes this mount and motor simple to use and learn.   

The Freshwater Series FW71 Digital Foot-Control features two mounting options.  The Gator Flex 360 or the Gator Breakaway #20.8 Mount that is built of the same extruded aluminum frame as the top of the line Gator Spring Mount.  The extruded base provides tournament level durability.  The only difference between the Gator Breakaway and the Gator Spring Mounts are the springs and the proven cast door and center decket design preferred by many and used on the #20.8 mount. 

The 20.8 Gator Breakaway Mount is built off the same extruded aluminum base as the Tour Gator Spring Mounts with a center decket, head and door that allows the prop to be stowed in either direction (inside or outside the boat) for added versatility just like the Original Gator Mount.

The Freshwater 54 and 71 are offered in both 5-speed and Digital Variable Speed.  The Digital variable speed module called Digital Guardian monitors your motor's amp draw, heat dissipation, output and other vital parameters.  The result is a motor that self-regulates - a cooler running motor with an extended service life. It is a self-contained, sealed module in the lower unit that brings all vital motor components together in one protected location, eliminating outdated analog circuit boards and related componentry found in many variable speed motors on the market. 

You’ll find, the Digital lower units provide plenty of thrust and the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM variable speed circuit) that is managed by the Digital processor in the lower unit maximizes your time on the water and will help extend your trolling time by 3X over a traditional 5-speed motor. 

5-speed motors are known of long lasting durability and value and are typically about $100 less than the same model with digital variable speed.  You give up two things with a 5-speed motor, fewer speed selections and less battery time on the water.
