Pontoon Friendly.  The new MotorGuide Wireless Series is designed to be the most pontoon friendly trolling motor ever
made. With a small footprint mount that is removable and lockable, the industry's easiest stow and deploy, and wireless
control from anywhere in the boat, you have the freedom and flexibility to meet any need.  Recommended shaft lengths for all pontoon boats would be 42" to 48".  The Wireless Series W55 48" or W75 48" would be the motor of choice because of the ability to control the boat from anywhere in it.

Deep-V Trolling.  MotorGuide Wireless Series trolling motors are made to fit boats with Deep-V hulls that are designed for big-water fishing situations in open water.  The small removable mounting plate makes it easy to install the plate and mount the motor.  The connection will be rock solid which is perfect for rough-water applications.  The small size of the Mounting Plate foot-print (11" long & 6.5" wide) allows it to fit almost any aluminum or fiber glass boat.  There are adjustable slide mounts on the market for difficult mounting applications where the motor does not clear the gunnels.

The Wireless Series Design allows the shaft to slide through the mount which minimizes the mount size and easily handles the design requirements for long shafts.  This design makes the motor perfect for Deep-V Boats.  The Wireless concept allows the motor to be operated from anywhere in the boat allowing the angler to troll from the back of the boat with the Wireless foot-pedal or optional Hand-Held Remote.  Another popular fishing technique is trolling depth contour with crankbaits for Walleyes with a small Mercury 9.9 hp. kicker or big engine.  Use the Wireless Series Trolling motor and remote steering function to enhance your steering.  The leverage the Wireless Series Trolling motor has in the front of the boat makes it much easier to turn the boat, while the kicker or big engine provides the power to buck the wind and generate the proper trolling speed.  By closing watching a depth finder the angler can follow a depth contour keeping the lure in the strike zone and maximize fishing results.

Shaft Length Selection "Rule of Thumb" for foot-control trolling motors.  A basic rule of thumb for determining the proper trolling motor shaft for a boat and the water conditions is to measure the distance from the boat's waterline to the mounting platform (boat gunnels) and add 24 inches and then round to the closest shaft length available.

Lund 20' Deep-V Alaskan Example:  Let's assume the boat when loaded for fishing has a measurement of 34" from the water line to the gunnels.  As a rule of thumb we add 24" to this number which equals a total shaft length of 58".  Now we round to the nearest shaft length based on the water most often fished and your style of fishing.  In this case, the boat is probably used in big water and would work best with a 60" shaft motor to make sure the prop does not blow-out in rough water and a 24-volt, 75 lb. thrust motor with Digital Variable Speed Control which is three times more efficient for more trolling time on the water would work best.  MotorGuide Wireless Model W75 60" or a W75L 60" with a built-in 200 kHz Lowrance transducer would be the best models to consider (see the Sonar Ready Wireless Series web page).
